“What color is your nude tone?”
Usually when we talk about the natural skin we always use the word ‘nude tone’. There are many tones for the skin tone since people all around the world have different skin colors. However, Western skin tone that we know as ‘nude tone’ is creamy white skin or light yellow or ivory tone. Because there are many cases that white people skin becomes the basic of all skin tone. When we talk about them we forget to use the word ‘skin tone color’, instead we changed that word into ‘white skin color’.

I casted different races of models and we shot together and that how I found their own specific beauty. And there were some delicate things that I have never realized while I lived in Korea before. Also we called it the same nude tone but we have all different skin color and we can feel the equality. To respect each other’s differences, experiences, cultures. All similar but all different. Just like our skin colors that can be related, wishing we could be the one, slowly.

“당신의 누드톤은 무슨색인가요?”

사람들은 보통 자신의 피부색을 말할 때 ‘누드 톤’라는 표현을 쓴다. 세상 사람들의 살갗 색이 똑같지 않듯 누드 컬러에도 여러 가지 톤이 있다. 다만, 서구 브랜드가 주도하는 패션 세계에서 아직까지 누드 컬러는 미색이나 복숭앗빛이 감도는 연한 아이보리색으로 인식되고 있다. 백인 피부가 기준이 되는 경우가 많기 때문이다.

나는 다 인종의 모델과 함께 촬영을 진행하며 미의 다양성과 조화를 발견했다. 단일민족이 살아가는 한국에서는 쉽게 느껴보지 못한 감정들이었다. 그리고 같은 누드 톤으로 불리우지만 다른 피부색을 통해 인간의 다양성과 평등을 이야기하고자 한다. 서로의 차이를 존중하고 문화를 공유하는 과정은 현시대를 살아가는 우리에게 중요한 과제이다. 다른 듯 닮은 연결되어가는 피부색들처럼 천천히 서로에게 물들어 갈 수 있기를 바란다.
